Gazipaşa Aiport Welcomes Its First Scheduled Flight
Gazipaşa Airport, operation for which was taken over by TAV Airports Holding in 2007 for a period of 25 years, receives its first scheduled flight.
On Monday July 12, 2010, Gazipaşa Airport, whose construction commenced in 1991, received flight BRJ600 operated by Borajet Airlines, welcoming its first ever scheduled flight. Passengers arriving on the ATR 72 aircraft owned by BoraJet Airlines, leaving Istanbul at 11:20 and arriving at Gazipaşa Airport around 12:50, were welcomed by TAV Gazipaşa officials.
As part of its welcoming ceremony, TAV Gazipaşa officials received the BoraJet flight--bearing a seating capacity of 66--with a water arch, a tradition in the aviation industry, and greeted the first passengers at Gazipaşa Airport and the crew with flowers. General Director of Borajet Airlines Kadir Peker, local officials, representatives of political and non-governmental organizations, and numerous institutions and tourism agencies that have contributed to the development of tourism in the region were among the first passengers that arrived at Gazipaşa Airport on Borajet Airlines.
Gazipaşa Airport, which will be operated by TAV Gazipaşa until July, 2034, has the capacity to serve 500,000 passengers annually. It includes a terminal building located in an area of 2,144 sq. m. and a car park with a capacity of 150 cars.
On August 21, 2007, TAV Airports Holding was granted the right to operate Antalya Gazipaşa Airport upon its bid to operate the airport against the yearly lease charge of 50,000 US Dollars + VAT; with submission of 65% of the revenue generated from operation activities to the government. The airport has gained significant importance with the recent acceleration in the growth of Turkey’s aviation industry and is expected to make a great contribution to the development of Turkey’s tourism sector.
